Operator-Controlled Cutting: Shears to Dies
Cutting equipment is either operator-controlled or computerized, depending on investment. Computerized cutting is widespread, but operator-controlled cutting is still standard in most small and mid-sized factories, and many large firms use both. Manual systems depend on the operator's skill to position, guide, and drive the cutting device. Here is the operator-controlled family.
Fully manual: hand shears
The oldest cutting device, used for single or double plies, mainly in the sample room and custom tailoring. It needs physical strength and practice to cut accurately to the line. The drawback is time and therefore high labour cost per garment, but it suits made-to-measure work.
