Cutting Room Flow Chart: The Process at a Glance
Garment production starts in the cutting room, where fabric is cut into components. That process is a fixed sequence of sub-processes, and seeing it as a flow chart makes the hand-offs obvious. This is the cutting-room flow at a glance. (For the step-by-step detail, see Process Description of Cutting Room.)
The flow
Pattern / marker → Cut-ratio receiving → Fabric receiving → Fabric relaxation (optional, knits) → Spreading → Marker making → Cutting → Numbering → Sorting → Bundling → to the sewing line.
| Step | Output |
|---|---|
| 1. Pattern / marker | Marker ready (manual or CAD/plotter) |
| 2. Cut-ratio receiving | Job sheet: qty, size ratio, colour breakdown |
| 3. Fabric receiving | Fabric issued against requirement |
| 4. Relaxation (knits) | Fabric stabilised (~24 h) |
| 5. Spreading | Lay built to marker length + ply count |
| 6. Marker making | Marker placed/chalked on top ply |
| 7. Cutting | Components separated |
| 8. Numbering | Plies ticketed (anti-shade-variation) |
| 9. Sorting | Parts grouped by garment/size/colour |
| 10. Bundling | Tied, ticketed, sent to sewing |
