Cutting Calculation Formula: Q = L·G·C·D
Cutting-room planning rests on one compact formula linking order quantity to how many cuts you must make per day. Get it right and the sewing floor is fed on time; get it wrong and you either starve production or over-cut. Here is the formula, what it assumes, and a worked example.
The formula
Q = L · G · C · D| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Q | Order quantity |
| L | Number of plies in a lay |
| G | Number of garments in the marker |
| C | Number of cuts per day |
| D | Available days for cutting |
To solve for cuts per day: C = Q ÷ (L · G · D).
