Air Freight Calculation: Gross vs Dimensional Weight
Air freight is charged on weight, but on whichever is higher: the actual gross weight or the dimensional (volumetric) weight. It's the fast, expensive option, used when time is the constraint. The trap is dimensional weight, light but bulky cargo pays for the space it occupies, not just what it weighs. Here's how it works.
The two weights
- Gross weight (G/Wt.) - the total weight of the product plus its packaging (carton).
- Dimensional weight (V/Kg) - a weight derived from the cargo's volume, because bulky cargo takes up aircraft space.
You pay on whichever is higher.
